Access

Update 17 Dec 2009
From today onwards our free Access Theme for activeCollab will be available for download via our new Members Area, and not via this page any more. We’re doing this because we will be better able to update and maintain this theme under our new ActiveCollab Themes section. I hope this won’t be of much an inconvenience.

Thanks, Leon.

Access is an activeCollab (aC) theme that has been created to offer users something a little different. Using web 2.0 influences, Access is designed with a soft, easy to view interface while still highlighting important events and actions to the user.

Features

  • Wide layout – Access uses more of your screen space.
  • Colours! Colours help view different activities – including comments, tickets, completed tasks etc.
  • Streamlined dashboard – Improved to see more ‘at a glance’.
  • Highlighted pined objects – Highlighted in red text to show its extra important.
  • Plus LOTS more…

FAQ’s

  • How can I display my logo?
  • By default, Access displays its own theme logo. To have your logo appear instead, you will need to edit the theme.css file. Either ‘comment out’ or remove the .site_logo, .site_logo img, #login_company_logo and #login_company_logo img styles. These are located at the beginning of the file, starting around line 29.
  • What is the browser compatibility for Access?
  • Access displays best in Firefox 3, but also works in Safari 3, Internet Explorer 7 and Google Chrome. Access does not support IE6; if you/your client uses IE6, please encourage them to upgrade their browser.
  • What modules does Access support?
  • All of the default modules are supported, plus the status module. If your module is not styled by Access, please send a copy of it to us and we will do our best to make it styled in the next version.

Final note from the author

Access is the first theme for activeCollab that I’ve made. I’m planning to further improve and maintain the Access theme with future aC releases. I hope Access helps make your aC experience that little extra enjoyable! If you have any feedback, suggestions etc. please use the comments below. Cheers, Leon.

  • @Leon — I wish I could help you with the new version…. I’m so eager to switch over to the new 2.0! :) Haha… hope you are well, just wanted you to know I’m “staying tuned” !

    Thanks again

  • Hi.
Found an error on the css @ line 317 :
    #menu_item_assignemnts …
    should be
    #menu_item_assignments …

the “e” is not on the right place.

    regards

    • I was talking about 1.0beta /

      • Thanks Carlos,

I posted a bug fix for this in the aC forums with the same solution. It’s a bug you can have a small laugh with – activecollab changed the spelling on this ID from version 2.0.2 beta – every version prior to that was spelt “menu_item_assignemnts” and Access 1.0 was released to address version 2.0.1.

But I should have also mentioned this bug here – thanks for bringing it up :)

    • let me tell you Leon, that you did a GREAT job on Access. It’s a real pleasure to see it everyday on my browser.

      Thank you!
(hope you got a small fee on aC sales ;)

  • Hi Leon,
First of all, what a beautiful theme, excellent job on this!

    I have one simple question:

    - What’s the font you used for the access logo?

I’ve found some similar fonts but not the same and I’ll really appreciate if you can tell me the name so I can search it.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • Thanks for the compliments!

The type used in the Access logo is actually custom made! What happened is the guys at activeCollab sent me a vector version of their logo, and from that I created the extra “C-E-S-S” letters, to form ‘Access’. I don’t know what the original ‘ac’ type is based on sorry.

If you like I can upload a vector version of the Access logo – from that you could create your own font/letters?

  • I’m guessing it’s custom too, but who knows there are a lot of fonts out — I did a search using What the Font? But this is what came back… I know they don’t have ever font on the site, but you’ll get some that have similar letters but not exact.

    * – had to edit out the original link, I guess What The Font? wasn’t letting me link directly to my results — sorry. Here’s the site though if you want to try http://www.whatthefont.com

If you’ve never used What the Font? it’s worth knowing about… I’ve saved myself a lot of searching this way :)

Hope you find that interesting, I’m not sure if Active Collab would want to give out the font or custom font they used — unless it’s being used in relationship to the AC project or a theme… but who knows.

Thanks again Leon — I agree wholeheartedly with Cesar, I was reminded of this yesterday when adding a new user that I work with to my AC and they were very impressed… that was part to do with AC and part to do with ACCESS I’m sure of it.

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for creating this wonderful theme. We’re using the new AC version and your beta already looks quite nice.

The only problem is the “NEW” button on the toolbar, if I click on this the two boxes (Choose Project / Choose type) are below each other instead of side to side.

We didn’t see any other problems. Thank you very much!

  • This is a great theme, thanks. FYI – in Firefox 3 (Mac) the columns break on some pages. For instance, on the “Active Projects” page the projects are listed, but the category list shows up below the list rather than to the side. (AC 2.1)

  • I absolutely love this theme for AC, it’s amazing. But I just have an issue with it though. Something’s wrong with the width of the layout; here’s a screenshot of what happens – http://bit.ly/hevxk. I’m using Firefox 3.5.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,Mike.

    • I noticed this too and haven’t found a solution for it yet. I get it only if the sidebar (ie bookmarks) is open in Firefox. It looks like a width / position:relative; / overflow related problem.

We’ll keep looking for a fix – until then if anyone else has idea’s please let me know :)

  • Not sure if this little typo/bug is known, but seems to be in the old Access and the updated 1.0 beta Access.

In the stylesheet, the following object style is misspelled, and thus the icon doesn’t show up.

    #menu_item_assignemnts

    It should be:
    #menu_item_assignments

  • it doesn’t work
active the theme, all styles and images are gone …

  • Hmmm seems I can’t download the file. Is there another location perhaps? The file size also registers as 131,072kbs on a wget – hangs.

    Thanks!

  • Oh I found it on the AC website, thanks sorry for bothering!

  • Hey Leon,

I’ve seen some people incorporate Lightbox style image viewing into AC somewhere — have you ever used this with Access? I’d love to try this out, but haven’t wanted to mess with Access.

It’s still a great theme, never get tired of logging in to use it.

  • Hi,

I’m using ActiveColab 2.1.4 with Access 1.1. I think this theme is great. However, there seems to be something wrong with css of the submit buttons. So far I’ve checked them in IE 7, FF 3.5 and Safari 4.

You can check it out on our login page:
    http://projects.firmaq.nl/

Any chance that this is going to be fixed in the near future?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

Thanks for your work on this great theme! We’re running it for quit a while now. Today we upgraded to AC 2.3 and Access 1.2 and i noticed that for Internet Explorer 7, the login-button isn’t transparent anymore. It looks fine in FF 3.+ Any idea where to look at / how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance! Greetz

  • Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post a quick comment that we are officially moving the Access theme under our new Members Area umbrella. Don’t worry, it’s still free and we will keep updating it with future ActiveCollab versions ;)

By moving the Access theme into our Members Area we can better update and support the theme. I hope this isn’t of much inconvenience for most users.

Thank you for all of the comments and support in keeping this theme going :)

    Cheers, Leon.
