Recently I listed to a great talk by Dan Willis from Sapient on how “Everything you know about web design is wrong”. Presented at a 2009 SXSWi, he talks about how web design is much more than just creating “pretty pictures”, and if designers are to be successful we need to try new things.

… what does design do? Design solves problems. … designers have to step up. They have to be the leaders of defining a problem, and then they have to come up with the solutions to solve that problem – that’s what design needs to do in the 21st century. This is whats going to allow web design to transcend its print design foundations.

I found it to be a very inspiring and motivating talk. What do you think – are web designers able to step up and try new things? Can we make a good jambalaya?
