Brisbane Chinatown Mall welcomes the Tiger

The Brisbane Chinatown Mall was officially re-opened yesterday, Sunday 14th February 2010 just in time for the year of the Tiger with Lord Mayor of Brisbane Campbell Newman centre stage for the launch.

The highlight of the day was the unveiling of the mall’s new Carp statue by local Chinese artist Catherine Chui. The statue is a playful and dynamic design consisting of two primary elements: the carp and the river/dragon within it.

The Lord Mayor of Brisbane Campbell Newman also announced rent free outdoor trading for a year to restaurants on the mall, and encouraged outdoor cooking.

Video of the Dragon Gate light sequences captured the day before – watch it on this post: Brisbane’s New Chinatown Mall

(If Catherine Chui has an official website please let me know in the comments – we want to credit you!)
